5 Fat Girl Friendly Exercise Options in Greenville, SC

We are all in need of some exercise without eyeballs!  I weighed myself this morning for the first time in a long time.  I about died!  I’ve gained back almost all the weight I lost last year.  With the move, the new job and other stressers, exercise just hasn’t been a priority.  I will spare you the big “I’m going on a diet” declaration…but I am aware of my weight gain more than ever!

Last week I had a giveaway on my Facebook Page and ask you ladies to tell me what you wanted to see on the blog.  Thank you!  I appreciate the feedback!  One of those suggestions was Fat Girl Friendly exercise options in Greenville.  With Lent coming up and people attempting to give up certain food items, I thought it might be a good post to start with.  Check out these area locations for some of the best solutions I have found.  These options are in no order and it all really depends on what you can afford and what you are willing to do.

1.  Planet Fitness – Greenville and Spartanburg Locations

I have been a member of PF for almost 3 years and I think I have maybe gone 30 times.  Not because I don’t like it, but because I am just lazy and it’s tough to get me out somewhere when people can watch me exercise.  The good thing about Planet Fitness is that there’s no judgements there.  I have found there are people looking around at any gym, but here I feel like there’s so much going on and it’s so big, there’s plenty of other things for people to look at.  Also, I see a lot of Fat Girls in there…so you won’t be alone.  Plus, it’s only $10 a month so if you don’t like your exercise…you can leave.  The lockers are nice and plenty of space to dress and shower in private.  Still going to be seen out and about, but it’s not a bad option for the price.

2.  Curves

I’ll be honest, I have never been here.  I have a few friends that have used this as an exercise option but I have not personally been there.  However, I do think that there is something to be said about an all female gym.  A membership to Curves costs about $56 a month but it includes exercise plans, meal plans, personal coaching and tracking software.  They have a free week trial online if you want to check it out.  It’s a lot easier to be hot and sweaty around a bunch of women. 

3.  4Balance Fitness

I LOVE this gym.  I wish I had been more dedicated when I was a member and wish I could afford it now.  It was $55 per month when I went, but that was a special deal, the fees are a little higher than that.  They have exercise options for group and personal training.  The owner Mike is awesome and his trainers are super helpful.  They don’t take any crap off of you and that’s what I need.  They have unique workouts and you won’t be doing the same thing every day.  It’s so high energy and busy in there…no one has any time to look at or worry about anyone else.  I can’t speak enough about this gym…I would be there again if I could afford it.  It’s totally 100% worth it.  Check them out on Twitter at @4balancefitness.

4.  Justin Bowers – Greenville’s Personal Trainer

Justin is just about as personal as it get.  He runs boot camps, group sessions and one on one.  I haven’t used Justin but I know him as a person and his dedication to fitness is unmatched.  I have friends that have used him and sing his praises.  He can help you in a gym or out and about in beautiful Greenville.  He almost ALWAYS has some kind of group deal or special going on.  I don’t know what his current rates are, but he’s a cool cat that can help you meet your goals without having to “be seen”.  Find him on Twitter @upstatefitness.

5.  DailyBurn – Online

Now, this takes some dedication.  I just started it today and man…it whooped my tail!  You have options on there for aggressive or nicer trainers.  They put you on a plan and it requires minimal equipment if at all.  It shows you how many calories you are burning up to the minute and you can change your workout anytime.  Theres everything from yoga to zumba.  It’s only $10 a month and you can share this with friends.  You can also play it from your PC or your Roku.  So far I love it.

6.  Grab a Friend and Use Your Body Weight

In the Army, we very very rarely used any equipment in our exercise and I was in the best shape of my life.  We used our own body weight and also resistance from others.  The Periodic Table of Bodyweight Exercises shows you all levels and types of exercises you can do just using your own body.  No equipment, just you!  If you follow the link to the table, you can click on each exercise and it takes you to a video of how the exercise is done.  PERFECT!  There’s absolutely no one looking at you doing this.  And it’s FREE!  You can also do this one outside and enjoy the sunshine!!

  4. Water aerobics at the ymca. I’m going to water zumba and water bootcamp. Cost is about $53.00 per month. Kind of expensive but it is something I love.
